Back when “The Office” was on, I always thought Kelly Kapor was funny. But … she was never my favorite character. She wasn’t always on every episode but when she was, I sure did laugh my buns off. Then when “The Mindy Project” came to Fox, I was intrigued. But honestly, I watch waaaaayyyy too much TV as it is, So I wasn’t on board from the start. I think I only watched a few episodes from the first season. (Note to self: re-watch season 1 of “The Mindy Project”) I do,however, love “Workaholics” and when I saw that Anders was going to be one of Mindy’s love interest, “The Mindy Project” got bumped up my list and earned a space on my DVR que. Anders was definitely the bait to get me to watch the show, but I soon realized that Mindy was the Real catch. She is smart, funny, and is always subtly making fun of herself. Oh Yeah, And she has the BEST outfits. So she clearly has good taste in picking out a great stylist. The intro to the show is soo much fun, and literally every time the show comes on, I have a personal dance party on my couch. I get really sad when they shorten the intro because it interrupts my Tuesday night mini dance party. But I understand why they do that, unfortunately, most people would rather have a little bit more content than a mini dance party on their couch.
My husband actually enjoys the show too and since he knows how much I like her too, he bought me Mindy’s book for Christmas. Its called ” Is everyone hanging out without me?.” I already had a few other books to read so the book had to wait. I am kind slow at reading, and as I mentioned before, I watch waaay too much TV.I am always getting distracted. I finally started reading it a few weeks ago and thanks to my ACT proctoring last week, I finished it. It was such a fun book and made me like Mindy even more. It is basically a memoir of her life documenting all her mishaps and awkwardness.

She talks a lot about being an awkward kid and her friendships growing up. She also talks about being dirt poor after college trying to make it as a writer and all the random jobs she took just to pay the bills. It wasn’t until her and her best friend, Brenda wrote a play called “Matt and Ben” about the bromance between Matt Damon and Ben Affleck that she really got any attention from potential writing employers. I also learned that, while she does some acting and does it pretty well, she is truly a writer. She got her big break when hired for a temporary writing spot for a few episodes of “The Office”. She was only 24 when she got this gig. She was the only girl on the staff and needless to say, she totally held her own with the fellas and her temporary gig turned into a permanent deal. One of my favorite parts in the book is how she talked about being a normal sized woman and how stylist don’t know how to dress her. Apparently all the Hollywood stylists only know how to make size negative 2 and the complete opposite large and in charge ladies look good.
I really enjoyed her book. It was short, easy to read, and I felt like I was chatting with one of my best friends when I was reading. LIfe is just too serious some times, you need to be able to relax and pick up a book that just makes life a little less serious but also reminds you that everyone has hard times and to make the best out of all situations. Go read ” Is everyone hanging out with me?” and also watch “The Mindy Project”!
